The following day, Ryan left for work very early in the morning leaving Aria behind. She prayed so hard for him not to be sacked from work because she was really hoping that soon, he will be coming to make his intentions known but how can he make his intentions known when he doesn’t have a job she asked herself.
Ryan got to the office on time before the boss who told him he will have his reply that day. He was scared and nervous for he didn’t know what the outcome of the offence he committed may be. He saw his boss entered the office and on sighting him, told him to come with him and he obeyed.
Boss: Close the door behind you Ryan.
Ryan: He did as instructed, stood in front of his boss who kept staring at him from head to toe and bent his head.
Boss: You know what you did was wrong right?
Ryan: Yes sir and I am very sorry.
Boss: He brought out the letter in his breast pocket and handed it over to him. Take it and open it.
Ryan: with his hands trembling, he collected the letter and opened it. He read the content of the letter, raised his head up and said Thank you.
Boss: Don’t thank me, thank my wife else you would have been out of a job by now. You may leave for your suspension starts today.
Ryan: Nodded his head and left the office a little bit relieved. He went straight home to deliver the news to Aria. She was glad that he got 2months suspension without pay and Thanked God for it.
Aria: Please you should also be mindful of how you shoulder you family responsibilities. What if you were sacked, wont life go on? eehh? Won’t life go on? If you don’t have the money, just hide your face. Don’t kill yourself to please others. That should be a big lesson to learn from.
Ryan: I have learnt a big lesson and it won’t happen again. By the way, I want to go home. You know my parents sent me a message yesterday and I haven’t responded.
Aria: hmm. This is what i just said earlier. Just imagine what was coming out from your mouth? I took off because of you and now you want to go home to your people. Nawa ooo. ‘Don’t worry, when we get married I will see how you will be running home to your people’ she lamented.
Ryan: Is that jealousy? He asked smiling and drawing her close to him. You can come if you want to. Besides, it is better they start getting acquainted with you, don’t you think?
Aria: I will come after you have shown your face to my family and now is not the right time to come because you guys are having issues and it needs to be sorted out. It will be best I go back home to my mother.
Ryan: If you insist. I love you so very much Aria. Whatever happens, don’t ever forget that you’re the only woman that I have ever loved.
Aria: I love you too Ryan and they hugged. She noticed that his phone has been ringing nonstop and asked ‘why don’t you want to pick you call?
Ryan: No point. I don’t want to hear anything from them until I get there. I know that whatever they tell me is money related. Don’t want to spoil my mood biko.
Aria: If that is the case, send them a text that you are on your way.
Ryan: I will but that will be when I get in the bus not now.
Aria: Alright.

Mrs. Ejiofor was restless. She felt something was wrong but could not place her hands on what it was. She felt like something has left her but she quickly pushed the thought of her son in danger away. She went to her husband who had just returned from the hospital to see Evelyn.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Papa Addson, it is somehow. I feel something is wrong somewhere. Ryan has never been home late to us before. Especially when he sent a text that he was on his way since in the afternoon, he is supposed to be here by now, I am deeply worried.
Mr. Ejiofor: Be at peace woman, nothing is wrong. My son, the apple of my eye. Nothing is wrong. He will be here soonest.
Mrs. Ejiofor: I hope sooo….i hope he is okay wherever he is.
Mrs. Ejiofor stayed awake all through the night. She prayed to God that wherever her son is, he should be fine. She dialed his number severally but all she got was it was switched off. She tried Cameron’s number, when he picked she asked if he has heard from his brother. Cameron said no and she asked if he has the digit of the woman Ryan wants to get married to. He quickly sent the number to her and she dialed it immediately.
Aria: Hello! Who is on the line please?
Mrs. Ejiofor: Hello my daughter, sorry for calling late this night. I am Ryan’s mother.
Aria: Her heart skipped when she said that. Errmmm Good evening ma.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Good evening my daughter. Have you heard from my son?
Aria: No Ma! I have been trying to call him but his number has been switched off. I thought he is even home by now and his battery is low.
Mrs. Ejiofor: He is not home oooo. Do you think he branched somewhere else?
Aria: Ryan is not like that. He doesn’t branch people’s place especially when he made it clear to me that he is coming home.
Mrs.Ejiofor: I hope nothing has happened to my son ooo. I am so worried.
Aria: Don’t stress yourself ma. He is fine wherever he is and nothing will happen to him in Jesus Name.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Amen ooo. Please do call when you hear from him okay?
Aria: I will and not to worry, nothing will happen to him.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Okay my daughter. Do have a goodnight rest.
Aria: You too and bye. She hung up the call. Jesus Christ, where could Ryan be at this time of the night. It is past 11pm already. I hope he is okay wherever he is. She tried dialing his number again but still same old answer. She couldn’t go back to bed but stayed awake till morning wondering what could have happened to him.
As Mrs. Ejiofor was still thinking about where Ryan could be by 7:15am, her phone rang. She looked at the caller and saw it was Ryan calling.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Yes Ryan, where have you been? I have been sick and worried about you since last night.
Caller: Hello Ma, good morning. Are you Ryan’s relative?
Mrs. Ejiofor: who is this and where is my son?
Caller: I am calling based on that ma. There was an accident in Orumba South involving a petrol tank and a Lexus Jeep. Your son was among the accident victims who was rushed to Ekegwa Hospital yesterday where he passed away.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Hey! Chim mo! She screamed. Isi gini, Ryan Nwam, you must be mistaken. That is not my son.
Caller: then you should come to the hospital immediately to identify the body. He said and hung up.
Mrs. Ejiofor: hey! I am dead. Hey! She screamed. Mr. Ejiofor who was in his room listening to NTA News left what he was doing and rushed to her room, followed by Adam and Dylan for Addison went to the borehole to fetch water.
Mr. Ejiofor: What is it? Why did you scream like that?
Mrs. Ejiofor: Nwam mooo….! My child! Ryan oooo! Hey! I am finished she lay on the ground. Hey ehhhh…. My child ooooo.
Mr. Ejiofor: Talk now. ‘What is it’ he looked at his wife and collected the phone that fell from her hand. He went through her calls and dialed Ryan’s number.
Mr. Ejiofor: Who is this please and why do you have my son’s phone with you. Where is my son?
Caller: He was involved in an accident last night. You should come to the hospital and identify his body.
Mr. Ejiofor: What! No it cannot be my son he said to the caller and dropped the phone. Ah! Ah! Ah! My chest. He held unto his chest with his hands, wriggling and staggering in pain. Mrs. Ejiofor quickly came to his aid and held unto him.
Mrs. Ejiofor: ‘What is it Papa Addison’ she asked afraid of what is happening before her very eyes
Mr. Ejiofor: My Chest, I can’t brea….the….i c….a….nt breat……. He collapsed.
Mrs. Ejiofor: She and Dylan quickly rushed him as he collapsed on the ground…Hey! Papa Addison, don’t do this to me please she screamed with tears in her eyes. People come and help me ooooo… Come and help me oooo she shouted while Adam quickly rushed out to call for help.

Eight months later, Ryan Ejiofor and Mr. Ejiofor were buried on the same day. Aria attended the burial of the man she gave her all to, accompanied with Jaycee her best friend. Friends from far and near attended the burial to pay their last respect to a friend, brother, father and son.
After the burial, one year later, Cameron got a job and switched to part time so that he will be able to take care of his family the little way he can and also continue with his education but he made sure he wasn’t overburdened with responsibilities the way Ryan was. God bless his soul.
Mrs. Ejiofor till this day blamed her dead husband for the death of her first son Ryan. If he hasn’t burdened Ryan with so many responsibilities, her son may probably be well focused and married with a child without continued traveling up and down. She took it upon herself to make sure Adam, Dylan and Addison look up to no one but themselves by enrolling Adam in programming training for him to be well skilled and stand on his own instead of depending on Cameron to cater for them always. She taught Addison the okrika business and also enrolled her in Makeup training class.
Dylan also secured admission, used the small money he had to get a shop near his school where he opened a restaurant for business. While Evelyn went back to her parents’ house.
Aria finally agreed to Jaycee proposal and they got married two years after.

The End...

He quickly dashed out of the office. He switched on his phone for it was switched off because of the persistent calls from his family. Immediately his phone came on, he received a message from his mother asking him to call back for it was an emergency. He dialed her number; she picked it up and was told that his presence is needed in the house. He wanted to explain his predicament to her when his father collected the phone from his mother and told him everything that happened adding that it was a matter of life and death situation.
He dialed Aria’s number asking if there was any way she could source for the money for him but all he got were negative news. He was confused; he didn’t know what to do. He went back to his boss and knelt down before him with tears in his eyes.
Ryan: Oga have mercy on me. Do not pay me my next salary if you want, but please just forgive me this once. He begged with tears in his eyes. He thought of his family, how they so much depend and are looking up to him. He thought of Evelyn who is lying unconsciously in the hospital. I am so sorry Oga, it won’t repeat itself again. Please forgive me.
Boss: It is because of my wife I employed you else I would never have known that you existed. It is also because of her that I trusted you but you just failed me. I should never have listened to her when she persuaded me about you.
Ryan: Oga please, give me a second chance, I promise it will never happen again. I know that I have no excuse for what I did and I am sorry.
Boss: You know that I would have called the police to arrest you by now. I am even been kind to you by telling you to provide the money before tomorrow, isn’t that lenient enough?
Ryan: Oga Please, I am the first child and the first son of my family. If I lose my job, I will commit suicide. My family looks up to me for I am the breadwinner. My parents are old and doing nothing and I have four junior ones to look after. Please, have mercy on me. The reason I took the money was because my family were lacking and I needed to provide for them.
Boss: And so? Am I not paying you your salary monthly?
Ryan: You are sir and I appreciate but the thing is no matter how much I give my family, it is never enough. Please don’t take away the only thing that gives me happiness I beg you.
Boss: There is nothing I can do right now. He said and stood up. Tomorrow you will know your fate.
Ryan: Oga please, forgive me. He kept pleading till his boss called his driver after he stepped out of the office and zoomed off. Ah! I am finished. I will probably lose my job because there is no way he will take me back. ‘What do I do now and where do I go from’ he lamented till he got home.
Few minutes later, Aria arrived his home. She quickly went to him and hugged him
Aria: One hundred and twenty thousand naira! You never told me that your family needed such a huge amount of money.
Ryan: I didn’t give them the money at once. I gave them bits by bits.
Aria: How could you make such a mistake? Why would you even think of collecting the business money?
Ryan: This is not the time for condemnation. I am really tired and stressed. I don’t know where to raise the money from.
Aria: I wish I could help you but right now, my hands are tied. I do not have any money on me now. What about he gives you some time? Did you beg him?
Ryan: I did and he refused. He said I will know my fate tomorrow.
Aria: Oh God! What is all this na. From one problem to another. The more we try to patch things up, the more it leaks. What do we do now?
Ryan: I really do not know. My parents have been calling me, asking me to come home immediately. My step mother who is six months pregnant had complications and they are asking them to deposit the sum of fifty thousand naira before she will be attended to. It is because of them that I am in this situation. They think I make millions. If my father had listened to me before marrying Evelyn, I won’t be in so much pressure like I am right now. Every time they need money, like I am a tree producing it. I am tired Aria, I am really tired!!
Aria: It will be fine. All you have to focus on right now is how to replace the money and pray you don’t lose your job. That should be your main priority right now. Let your parents do whatever they have to do and when you are okay, you will pay them a visit. By the way, I was worried about you and took permission that I won’t be reporting to work tomorrow. Also when I got home I told my mom that I will be spending today and hopefully tomorrow with you. I hope you don’t mind.
Ryan: I need you here with me more than ever and thanks for everything.
Aria: What are you thanking me for? Let me go and prepare something for you to eat.
After dinner, they had their bath and cuddled each other on the bed. Aria was thinking who she will call to raise that amount of money for her the following day while Ryan was thinking how he will cope if he eventually lose his job.
Ryan: I forgot to tell you that I called the wife of my boss. Remember I told you that it was through her I got the job.
Aria: Yes you did. Hope you begged her.
Ryan: I did and I had to also tell her the reason I collected the money. She was angry initially but said she will see what she can do. I hope her husband listens to her and I pray I will be given a second chance.
Aria: Don’t worry; all will be fine by tomorrow. We will face the storm together okay.
Ryan: Okay. I want you to make love to me like this is the last time.
Aria: Raising her head to look at him very well. Why did you say that? I hate it when you talk negative.
Ryan: Sorry Aria. I am just too emotional today. I won’t say it again.
Aria: Good and I will make love to you like it is our first time; she kissed him on his lips and they made sweet sensational love.

Mr. Ejiofor: ‘if he has sent the money when he called, I am very sure my child will still be alive right now. Why hasn’t he called us or send the money’ he asked his first wife. Doesn’t he know that Evelyn is in a critical condition and had a miscarriage?
Mrs. Ejiofor: Give the boy a break. I am sure his in a tight spot right now. You know your son will be here by now if there is an emergency, maybe something came up that is why you haven’t heard from him.
Mr. Ejiofor: I hope so. He should bring the money for the treatment when he is coming ooo. Not that when he comes here he will say he doesn’t have money. I promised my friend that gave me the balance I will pay tomorrow. I don’t want to hear any stories when he comes ooo.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Pity the boy abeg. He has done more than enough already. Just know that when he gets married, he will have more responsibilities. You and Evelyn should start planning how you are going to start making your own money. Give him some credit abeg.
Mr. Ejiofor: You can say whatever you like, he is my son and he is doing his duty.
Mrs. Ejiofor: That is why you want to choke him abi? Anyway, it is late already. I am not sure he will be coming today again let’s hope for tomorrow. And by the way, Papa Addison, make sure you go to the hospital first thing tomorrow and enquire about her health. I will be there after I finish preparing hot pepper soup for her since her junior sister is with her.
Mr. Ejiofor : if he calls, tell him to bring enough money with him.
Mrs. Ejiofor: ‘I don’t understand you. Shouldn’t you be angry that you lost a child? Your need for money should not make my son steal because of you people’ she said as she walked to her room.

Doctor: ‘Are you her husband sir’ he asked the frail looking man gallivanting the hall way.
Mr. Ejiofor: Yes i am. How is she and the baby, hope they are okay?
Doctor: she is in a critical condition right now and will need to be admitted immediately. Please go to the cashier and make the necessary payment before any treatment can commence and be fast with it please. You know your wife came in here bleeding seriously and she needs to be attended to.
Mr. Ejiofor: Please doctor, I will make the necessary payment but please make sure that my wife and child are doing okay. I don’t want anything to happen to them please.
Doctor: ‘We will do our best but please make it fast’ he said and walked away leaving Mr. Ejiofor to go and make the payment.
He went to the cashier and was told he needs to deposit a sum of fifty thousand naira. Mr. Ejiofor quickly rushed home and brought the thirty thousand naira that was given to him by Ryan the last time he came home. He gave the money to the cashier and was told to balance up the payment.
Mr. Ejiofor: Haba Cashier, Please now. I will make the payment as soon as possible, but just use this one and commence treatment. Do it for my wife and unborn child please.
Cashier: Oga, I am not the doctor and my hands are tied here. Just make the necessary payment and if you want them to be treated quickly.
Mr.Ejiofor: But that is all I have for now.
Cashier: Isn’t there somebody you can call?
Mr. Ejiofor: I have but he is not picking his call at the moment. Once he calls and hears the condition I am in, I am sure he will respond. The money is not the issue right now, just help my wife please.
Cashier: Oga, I am sorry, this is not a charity organization. Pay the money fast ooo because time is not on your wife and unborn child’s. ‘if you want them to live, you should be out of here by now looking for money to help them’ she said carelessly.
Mr. Ejiofor: Thought of what he could do and how to raise the money. He dialed Ryan’s number again and it said his number was switched off. ‘What do I do now? Where will I get the sum of twenty thousand naira for her treatment’ he asked no one in particular but himself. ‘Let me go and see if Mama Addison will help me out’ he said and walked away.
When he got home, he met his first wife preparing food for Evelyn. She rushed to him to inquire about her.
Mrs. Ejiofor: How is Evelyn and the baby? Hope she is okay. I learnt you came to the house to collect some cash for her payment. Is she alright?
Mr. Ejiofor: ‘she is in a critical condition and the doctor said we should deposit fifty thousand naira before any treatment will commence’ he said frowning
Mrs. Ejiofor : Ehen! Have you given them the money?
Mr. Ejiofor: I do not have that kind of money with me. That is the reason I came back to ask you if you have any money to borrow me.
Mrs. Ejiofor: The twenty thousand I had with me was what I used in paying Addison school fees yesterday. But wait ooo, I thought you came home to collect some money, what about the money you came to collect.
Mr. Ejiofor: It is not enough.
Mrs. Ejiofor: But I thought Ryan gave you eight thousand naira the other day. What about the money?
Mr. Ejiofor: I gave Evelyn Thirty thousand naira out of it which she used for her personal purpose already and I am only left with fifty which isn’t enough.
Mrs. Ejiofor: hmm…. See what you and this your wifey have caused? What do we do now because without the money, Evelyn will not be attended to. Have you called Ryan, he is our only hope right now because this is a case of life and death.
Mr. Ejiofor: I have and his number is not reachable. I really do not know what to do. I don’t want anything to happen to my wife and child.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Nothing will happen to them. Do not worry; I am sure he is very busy that is why he switched off. Let me call Adam to come and send a message to him using my phone stating that it is an emergency. Don’t worry my husband, it is well.

Ryan was in his office contemplating whether to give the financial book to his boss or think of a better way to avoid him finding out the truth. He knew that if he should present the book to him and is discovered, he could lose his job and if he doesn’t present the book, he could also be queried. He decided to present the book and prays that he never find out. If he is found out, he will look for a way to cover his mess up.
Ryan: Oga, here is the book you requested for sir.
Boss: Good. Please sit down while I go through it immediately.
Ryan sat down jittering, waiting for his boss to say something. After few minutes which seem like a life time to him, his boss finally looked up from the book he has been so engrossed with.
Boss: What is happening here Ryan, he showed him the book, pointed to where the account is not balancing. Can you explain this to me?
Ryan: Errmm..Errmmm..sir, it is just that Errrmmm..Errmmmm
Boss: Are you going to keep up with the Errmmm..Errmmm or will you get hold of yourself and explain to me why the account is not balancing.
Ryan: Oga, I will go through it again and resolve the matter immediately.
Boss: What nonsense are you talking about? You will resolve what immediately? I need an explanation right now. What happened to the one hundred and twenty thousand naira? You know this is business and my money cannot just go missing like that without a tangible explanation. I don’t have all day Mr. Man.
Ryan: Sir, actually Errmmm what really happened was that the money didn’t go missing or anything. I actually took it hoping that I will pay back before the month end.
Boss: What? Let me get this straight please. You mean you actually took out of the business money for your own personal gain?
Ryan: ‘Yes sir’ with head bowed.
Boss: Why? Am I not paying you enough? Remember that it was because of my wife that you are here and yet you squander my money?
Ryan: No sir! Please sir, I didn’t squander the money. I only took out of it to solve some family issues with the hope that I will pay back.
Boss: Without anyone knowing? Without my consent? Don’t you know that is stealing?
Ryan: I am sorry sir; you can deduct it from my salary please. Forgive me. I promise that I will not do it again.
Boss: I thought you are different and unique. I was even telling others how good you are but it seems I am wrong about you. Listen Ryan, you have till evening to get the money and replace it otherwise, you will have yourself to blame.
Ryan: But Oga, he went on his knees ‘please pardon me this once. I promise I will pay back but not now or today. Please give me some time’.
Boss: Get out. ‘I said get out’ he screamed.

Aria: I know you have feelings for me and I know it is difficult to accept the fact that I will soon be getting married but please for the sake of our friendship, don’t just walk away from my life. Please I beg you Jayce.
Jayce: I have to go and I am sorry because there is nothing I can do about it at the moment. I just hope and pray that my transfer will be granted as soon as possible.
Aria: Jayce please do not do this. I am not sure I will want it to happen this way for the both of us.
Jayce: it hurts so much to see the one person you love, loving another man. I see you here every day, each time you smile, I know it is because of Ryan and each time you are sad, it is also because of Ryan. I think it is time I leave so that you can have the kind of life you have always wished and dreamt of. You will do fine without me since Ryan is about to be on board full time.
Aria: Ryan please, do not do this. We can still be friends even if I get married to Ryan.
Jayce: You see what i mean? You are even referring me as Ryan. Hmmm… the love is THICK!
Aria: I’m sorry! I mean Jayce.. not Ryan
Jayce: Anyway, I cannot remain here while you get married to Ryan. It is time I leave you in peace.

Ryan got very early to work one morning; he went straight to the warehouse when he was told his boss is around and counting the stock.
Ryan: Good morning sir.
Boss: Ehen! Ryan, good morning. ‘Come to my office later, I will like to see you’ he said as he backed him, counting the stock in the warehouse.
Ryan: Yes sir but I sent you emails of the available stock and everything you need to know already.
Boss: I know Ryan. Just doing a routine check if what you sent tally with what is here.
Ryan: Okay sir. He said scratching his head. He quickly left his boss to check his financial records for the week and previous week because he has been collecting some money from it without really putting it back hoping that as soon as he cleared up his family issue and mess, he will do so immediately. He left his office to meet his colleague omaze for advice.
Omaze: Ryan, I hear say boss dey around ooo. Hope say no wahala this one wey you dey here by this time, you no suppose dey your office?

Omaze: What, how could you do a thing like that? He thought for a few minutes and said, I just hope oga don’t ask for it today ooo else you are done for.
Ryan: Is there no way you can help me out of it?
Omaze: shoooo! How I wan take help you out by this time when oga dey around? Ryan: There is no one I can collect such money from now. This is just so sudden for me. I am finished. I just hope he doesn’t check the accounting book today ooo.
Omaze: My hand no dey ooo. I don tell you finish.

Ryan: was in his office taking care of the daily business when he got a call that his boss was looking for him. ‘Yes boss, you called’.
Boss: I told you to report to my office later in the day, why have you not been here?
Ryan: I forgot sir, I am sorry.
Boss: That’s okay. I have gone through all the stock and everything is in order. I want to thank you for a job well done, you have been a blessing to us and our sales have increased to maximum. We really appreciate the work you are doing here. Thank you.
Ryan: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you. I appreciate.
Boss: It is alright, you may go now. As he turned around to go, his boss said ‘Ehen! Before I forget, I need to go through all the financial records, bring it to me immediately.
Ryan: Errmm… okay, I will bring it to you right away sir he said and walked away.

Jayce sighted Ryan from afar when he alighted from the Taxi he boarded coming straight to the office where Aria works, he quickly went to inform her of his arrival.
Jayce: Aria, Ryan is coming here.
Aria: ‘Where is he’ she asked as she stood up quickly from her seat.
Jayce: He just alighted from a taxi. He should be here any moment from now.
Aria: smiled for she was happy that he came looking for her. She thought he will not put up a fight to save their relationship. ‘Errmm Jayce, can you cover up for me, let me go and meet him up outside. Incase my madame ask of my where about, just tell her I went to get something to eat please’ she begged.
Jayce: ‘I am jealous ooo’ he said sincerely. You can go and I will cover up for you but don’t stay long ooo. She nodded, opened her handbag, brought out her mary kay foundation and applied on her face. E don do eh! You look beautiful. Now go before I change my mind about covering up for you quickly.
Aria: Thanks Jayce. I won’t stay long I promise. She returned back her makeup kits and left.
Jayce: hmm. I hear! ‘I wish I am Ryan, I wish I am the one you love so much Aria. But if you are really happy with Ryan then I am also happy for you’ he said to himself.
Ryan was about entering Aria’s office when she stopped him on the way.
Aria: ‘What are you doing here’ she asked feigning anger.
Ryan: Good day to you too sweetheart. ‘Since you refused to pick my calls, I decided to come find my queen’ he said smiling.
Aria: You cannot stay here. Let’s go somewhere else and talk please. She said and led the way to a fast-food close to where she works. After he ordered Malta and meat pie for her, she asked what brought you here?
Ryan: Aria, I am sorry and don’t be hard on me please.
Aria: I did not follow you here so you can apologize to me. I just want to know if you are interested in taking our relationship to the next level.
Ryan: I have thought about it very well and I have decided that in the next three months, I will be coming to see your parents. Is that okay with you?
Aria: Are you serious Ryan or is this one of your jokes? If na play stop am ooo….she said smiling.
Ryan: I didn’t come all the way from Onitsha to Asaba to joke around. I mean every word I say.
Aria: Wanted to scream and run round the place but she remembered she is in a fast-food and composed herself. She looked at him in the eyes, stretched forth her hands to his and said now you are finally talking. I am sorry about the other day. Am sure that if I had not done what I did, you would not have taken the bold step.
Ryan : Hope you are very happy now.
Aria: I am very very happy Ryan. Have you told your people about getting married?
Ryan: When next I get home, that will be the first news I will deliver to them.
Aria: Good. Thanks a lot for everything.
Ryan: You are welcome Aria.
==
When Aria got home after delivering the good news to Jayce, she informed her mother of what transpired between her and Ryan whom she disclosed as the man she is dating.
Mrs. Ekueme: Ehen! Now you are talking. When did he say he is coming to make his intentions known again?
Aria: in the next three months Mommy.
Mrs. Ekueme: Good. Your father should be home by then. I will give him the good news when he comes home but before then, be a good girl and show him that you are the best woman he could ever have as a wife. Anything that will Make you people quarrel or argue unnecessarily please avoid it before he changes his mind.
Aria: Mommy we are good and we love each other. Nothing will come in our way, don’t worry yourself.
Mrs. Ekueme: No Problem and please make sure you pray hard about it oooo.
Aria: Yes Mommy.

Ryan: Mama! Papa! He said looking at them. I called you both here because there is something I would like to discuss with you.
Mrs. Ejiofor: What is it Ryan my son. Hope no problem this one that you came to see us and called both of us to come here to your father’s room for a private talk.
Ryan: The reason I called you both alone to the room is because I want to make it known to the both of you first that I want to get married and I have found the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Ehen! Now you are talking. You finally want to settle down? Ryan nodded ‘I am so happy for you’.
Mr.Ejiofor: Where is the young lady from?
Ryan: She is from Asaba Papa.
Mr. Ejiofor: I am happy that you want to start your own family. Just tell me when you are ready so we start the normal process of marriage okay. Trust your papa now, I will be there to paint the town RED. ok?
Ryan: Yes Papa. I will be going to see her people in the next three or four months, after that, we will take the next step.
Mr. Ejiofor: which means you still have time. Arrangements will commence when that has been done. I am happy for you son.
Ryan: Thank you Papa.
When Aria told Jayce the good news, he was very happy for her and has kept his distance away from her. He secretly applied for a transfer to enable him be in another location.
Aria got to work, met her colleagues talking and gisting about Jayce and joined in the conversation. It was then she discovered Jayce applied for a transfer. She quickly went to his office to inquire if what she heard from them were true.
Aria: ‘it is because of me that you are doing it abi’ she asked as she entered his office.
Jayce: Good Morning to you too Aria. What am I doing?
Aria: She sat opposite him in his office and said ‘are you applying for a transfer because of me?’
Jayce: Who told you about it? I thought I was good at keeping this a secret, how did you know?
Aria: Why didn’t you tell me this before? Why have you been trying to avoid me all this while?
Jayce: I am not avoiding you. I just want to leave this place as soon as possible. I seem to be suffocating here.

Aria: For how long will I keep playing the role of a good girlfriend yet no ring or any sign that you want to settle down? Do you think the family problems you are facing will ever stop? Every day, challenges keep coming up and if you cannot face it, you let it be. With time it will clear up on its own. You are not the only first son in this world oooo.
Ryan: Aria, I am not ready for this your noise abeg. When next you come, we will talk about it.
Aria: There won’t be a next time if we don’t talk about it now and today. If I walk out the door Ryan, that will be the end of us. I mean, haven’t I tried enough as a girlfriend? How long do you want me to keep waiting or do you also want to tell me to give you more time again?
Ryan: I do not know what you want me to say again. It is obvious you are not ready to listen to me one bit. Told you I just had a stressful day and went to resolve some issues at home, instead of you to ask me what the problem is again you are here adding yours to it.
Aria: I am not asking anything Ryan, because I already know that your people want some money from you. Isn’t that the reason you are always going home?
Ryan: ‘I am too tired for all this nonsense you are about to vomit from your mouth’ he laid on the bed exhausted.
Aria: When are you coming to make your intentions known in my house?
Ryan: looking at her and knew she was adamant on getting a response from her said ‘When I am ready I will come but not now’.
Aria: Definitely this year abi?
Ryan: I don’t think it will be this year again. Let’s see how next year goes.
Aria: ‘Is this a game to you Ryan’ she shouted. Is this how you will keep procrastinating what you should do now?
Ryan: Aria, I just told you the truth na. I can’t do it this year, as a matter of fact; my step mother is …..
Aria: ‘Will you stop with all your stories’ she interrupted. If you as a man cannot set your priorities right then it is over between us. She picked up her handbag and banged the door behind her.

The following day, when Aria got to her place of work, she was looking moody and unease.
Jayce: ‘Aria, what is the problem with you today’ he asked after she has finished taking stock of all the drinks that arrived that day.
Aria: Jayce please leave me alone, I am not in the mood this afternoon abeg.
Jayce: It is me your friend you are talking to like this abi? No wahala. ‘When you’re ready to talk, I will be in my office waiting to listen’ he said and walked away.

Ryan who was also at his place of work has tried reaching Aria so many times but her number has been switched off since she left his apartment the previous day. He was lost. He didn’t know what to do and how to handle the situation. He didn’t want to lose the only good thing he had in his life which is Aria. He knew he should have run after her last night but he was tired and exhausted. He didn’t want to create a scene outside his apartment that was why he allowed her leave. He thought about Evelyn and his father who has been giving him several missed calls without him picking or replying their messages. He thought about what Aria has said and he knew she was right. He can’t keep her waiting and he also can’t let her go but now is not the right time to talk about settling down when there is still a lot to do in his family. He was lost in thought when his colleague Omaze called his attention.
Omaze: Mr. Ryan, how about the account you were balancing last week, was it okay?
Ryan: Yes it was. Thank God ooo. It was Chika that was with the five hundred thousand naira.
Omaze: Thank God. If not, we for don enter trouble had it been that money was not accounted for.
Ryan: Yes ooo. I thank God because I do not even have one naira with me as I speak with you now. By the way, you fit borrow me like fifty thousand naira?
Omaze: Mr. Ryan, what do you do with all this money you keep borrowing from me? It is not like you are a married man for me to say okay, you have responsibilities.
Ryan: Omaze you no go understand,I no be married man but I still get family wey I dey cater for.
Omaze: But no be like this wey you dey go nah. The last time wey I borrow you money wetin you take am do?
Ryan: Na family issues na.
Omaze: And you want to borrow another again for the same family issues? What about your salary, how do you manage it sef? You wey dey earn double of wetin I dey earn.
Ryan: You no go understand my brother. Just give me the money if you can and I will pay month end.
Omaze: I do not have any money to spare at the moment. But wait ooo. You be the accountant here na. no be you dey balance account every week?
Ryan: No nah Omaze. That is stealing. How can you even suggest that I take money out of company’s money? Nooo. It won’t work, I do not want to lose my job. It is one of the best things that have happened to me.
Omaze: I thought you needed the money? Sorry ooo, Mr. Saint. Who even said you should steal it? All I meant to say was, you take the money and when month end you replace it back without anybody knowing. Is it not you that balance it every week and Oga comes and check your book monthly? Since you said you will pay month end why don’t you collect the money and replace it month end?
Ryan: He thought for a few minutes, placing his right hand on his chin. Guy, na true you talk ooo but hope say Oga no go come check our records before month end ooo. I no wan enter wahala.
Omaze: You dey talk like say you no sabi oga again. Anyway, that na my suggestion. It is left to you if you will heed to it or not. The ball is in your court. Make I go my office go relax before customer go start to dey find me jare. We go see later. He shook hands with him and left his office.
Ryan: said to himself ‘Why I no think of this before sef? ‘Thank God say this guy suggest this method to me ooo. Before month end, I go replace the money. Make I collect the money go settle my family matter and after that, I go come go see Aria tomorrow after work’ he said smiling. But how much I go collect wey go settle them sef? Fifty thousand naira fit no do me take give them for house especially when Evelyn get belle!

Ryan: Papa, what is it that I am hearing? You want to beat up your own wife simply because of Evelyn your second wife? You have never raised your hands on my mother, why do you want to start now? He asked as soon as he got to the house and met his father alone in his room for he was on his way home from work when he got a call from his mother, crying and begging him to come home that his father wants to beat him for telling him the truth. He quickly took the next available bus to the house.
Mr. Ejiofor: have you asked your mother what she did? Have you asked her before putting all the blame on me? He shouted.
Ryan: whatever she may have done, is still not a good reason for you to raise your hands on her. I won’t support that Papa. Mrs. Ejiofor who was in her room crying and Addison consoling her dried her tears, went to where her son is. ‘Mama are you okay’ he asked.
Mrs. Ejiofor: I am not okay Ryan. Papa Addison, why don’t you tell him the reason why we are quarrelling?
Ryan: Papa, why are you people quarrelling again? It is like you people do not know that I am always risking my life coming here almost every weekend. It is either you need money or that there is something urgent and now, you people have added fighting to my coming to see you every time. What if I am living in Port Harcourt or Lagos, how will you people cope?
Mrs. Ejiofor: ‘ask your father’ Isn’t he over there she pointed towards his direction. Is he not the man in this house?
Ryan: Mama, since Papa will not say what brought about the quarrel; can you please fill me in?
Mrs. Ejiofor: it was simply because I was going to serve him his lunch when Evelyn walked up to him happily telling him she is three months Pregnant. She showed him the result of the test she did and said now that she is pregnant she won’t want to be starving herself. I never said anything. I was even happy for her until he requested for his phone. He wanted to give you a call telling you that you will be the one to take care of his wife now that she is with a child.
Ryan: looked at his father and said. Papa is it true? I will look after the child you planted in her womb? ‘Is that the one you want to add to me now’ he asked calmly.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Did you bite your tongue that you cannot speak again Papa Addison?
Mr.Ejiofor: what is wrong with you taking over the responsibility since you know that I do not have money to take care of Evelyn and her unborn child? The child she is carrying is an insider not an outsider and he or she is your blood too. Afterall, i took care of all your responsibilities training you out of University.
Ryan: so you mean, you planted a seed and yet cannot nurture it? Papa, do you really love me because I cannot understand how you of all people, will have a child and put that child through so much.
Mr. Ejiofor: my father and the father before me never had so many children. I am trying to make sure that I give birth to plenty children so that you will have enough brothers and sisters. I do not have anybody, no brother, no sister and you people are here complaining instead of you to appreciate all my effort.
Ryan: Don’t get me wrong Papa, I am not saying you should not produce but if you want to produce, make sure you have enough resources to train them. Who will take care of Evelyn and her Child now?
Mrs. Ejiofor: didn’t you hear what I just said?
Ryan: Mama, I heard you loud and clear. I just want to hear from Papa’s mouth first. Papa, I am waiting oooo. Who will take care of Evelyn and her unborn child now?
Mr. Ejiofor: You all know that I do not have the finance that is why you people are behaving like this. If the money was there, I won’t even look at the both of you twice but since it is not, Ryan, you will have to manage her affairs till things get better.
Ryan: hahahaahahahhahaaha…he laughed so loud that his mother thought something was wrong with him. After he finished laughing, he looked at his father with anger in his eyes, hissed and walked out of the room. He went to his mother’s room and she followed him.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Was for the first time scared of what his son might do to himself or anyone around him. She quickly told Addison who was lying down on the bed to leave the room. She sat down next to Ryan. Are you okay?
Ryan : Mama, you need not worry I am fine. I am just trying to calm my anger before leaving this place. I don’t want to step out of here angry.
Mrs. Ejiofor: take it easy Nwam inugo? Don’t let your father push you to the wall. If it is difficult or if you cannot do it, then leave it. It is not your responsibility do you hear?
Ryan: Yes Mama. Where is Dylan and Adam?
Mrs. Ejiofor: Dylan went for Extra Moral Lessons, Adam should be in the next compound with his friends.
Ryan: what about Evelyn?
Mrs. Ejiofor : hmm.. That one, she is in her room acting like she knows nothing.
Ryan: okay Mama, let me be on my way home meanwhile take this money for house keep. He dipped his hand into his breast pocket and counted ten thousand naira out and handed it to her. I am leaving now mama
Mrs. Ejiofor : Okay my son. Do take care of yourself you hear.
Ryan: Okay Mama. Bye.

As Ryan got to his house, he met his door unlocked and was wondering who could be in his house by this time of the day. He quickly entered his apartment and met Aria who was busy getting prepared to leave the house.
Ryan: Ah ah! Aria, what are you doing here by this time of the night. You should have told me you were coming earlier.
Aria: I called your line severally but couldn’t get through to you. I thought maybe you should be home by now that was why I had to come.
Ryan: Has it been long you came in?
Aria: Yes it has.
Ryan: I didn’t know you were here and I am sorry. I had to rush home to see my parents because they were having issues.
Aria: Hope all is well with them.
Ryan: Yes all is fine. Are you ready to go now? It is getting late, you know Onitsha is not safe for a woman like you by this time of the night.
Aria: Errrmmm. I will go very soon. Since you are here already, just give me 5 minutes of your time let us discuss something important.
Ryan: What is it? Hope no problem?
Aria: When are you finally coming to see my people?
Ryan: Aria, I had a very stressful day today coupled with the fact that I had to go home to trash out some issues. I am too tired to discuss about that at the moment maybe some other time please.
Aria: There won’t be a next time if you do not answer my question Ryan. You told me over a year ago that after one year we will be planning on this issue. It is one year already and still nothing has been said about it.
Ryan: I have some pending issues that I have to trash in my family. You of all people should understand me please.

Mr. Ejiofor: but what is wrong with Ryan sending us some money?
Mrs. Ejiofor: nothing is wrong with him sending us money but if it is because of Evelyn, there is everything wrong with it. Turning to Evelyn she said ‘So because my son is working, you now want to use him anyhow you like abi? It will not work for you this time. I have kept quiet enough and on no account will he send money for house keep and you give all to Evelyn, Papa Addison’.
Evelyn: isn’t that his responsibility to take care of the house? Or is he not next after his father?
Mrs. Ejiofor: No it is not. It is our husband’s responsibility to take care of his own home and not frustrating his first child with what he is supposed to do. i agree that he hasn’t been paid his pension money that was why I never objected when he made it Ryan’s duty to take care of us but since he married you, you have also become my first son’s duty and you even have the mouth to ask him to request for money from him. Papa Addison, I was there when you were warned ooo. If Ryan sends money to this house, don’t give it to your so called darling wife. It is for us all.
Mr. Ejiofor: Will you shut up woman. Am I not his father? Whatever money he gives me is my money. After all I single handedly trained him to school.
Mrs. Ejiofor: and so? So because you single handedly trained him in school gives you the reason for you and your wife to frustrate him abi? When has Evelyn become his responsibility? Was he the one that married her? Instead of you to ask him when he will be bringing his wife-to be home, you are busy taking a second wife. Now that you have finally brought her home you want to add more burden to my son. It will not work you hear. Whose responsibility is it to take care of your child, is it not yours? Because you single handedly trained him in school we will not hear word again in this house.
Mr.Ejiofor: I have every right over him because he is my son.
Mrs. Ejiofor: every right over him abi? Okay na. We shall see. Because you want to please Evelyn you want to suck your son dry at all cost abi? What if he was not there? Won’t you think of working too to satisfy your wife? Or you think because you are old you cannot work again?
Mr. Ejiofor: work at this my old age? You must be very stupid to think that.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Nooo. Don’t call me stupid please. You know you are old yet you went ahead to marry a second wife at the expense of your son. ‘You people, Evelyn and Papa Addison. You people should leave my son alone ooo. He will not die because of you people’. She stood and left them there.

Every Saturday, Ryan makes sure he goes to Onitsha main Market to do any meager job to add to the one he already has so that he will be able to meet his family expectations. He hardly have time for himself let alone have time for Aria except on Sundays where he sleeps all through and most times he skips going to church.
He was home one Sunday doing his Laundry when Cameron came back from church and told him, he will be leaving for school the following day for he was able to secure admission into Nnamdi Azikwe University in Anambra State while Dylan didn’t make his Jamb and will be sitting for the next Jamb again.
Cameron: Brother, I will be going to school on Monday to pay for my school fees and acceptance fees.
Ryan: ‘Okay, no wahala since I already gave you money for them’ he said and continued washing. The only thing left now is money for accommodation and pocket money abi?
Cameron: Yes Brother.
Ryan: Good. Since you will be going back, you will have to think of something to be doing after classes. When you get your feet on the ground in school, confirm how their part time class will be so that you switch in your second year. You are no more a child and it is time you start earning your own money. Not every time you will be looking up to me.
Cameron: Okay brother and thank you for everything.
Ryan: Do not thank me yet, finish school and finish well before you think of thanking me.
Cameron: Okay brother.

Aria went to pay a visit to Jayce in his house. Sometimes she wishes Jayce was Ryan. Jayce is living comfortably in his one room well furnished Apartment unlike Ryan who does not have anything tangible in his house except a fan and a small single mattress meant for only one person, while Jayce is his own man and cater for himself alone.
Jayce: This one wey you just siddon for my house like say you be guest come dey frown your face hope say no wahala.
Aria: You no happy as I come your place instead of my boyfriend place?
Jayce: Of course I am happy having you around me na. What is the problem?
Aria: Is it everytime I come to you that I have a problem?
Jayce: C’mon Aria, I know you too well. Remember we work in the same place and I always have your interest at heart. I know when you are happy and when you are sad.
Aria: Hmmm…easy ooo Jayce. One would think that you and I are having something.
Jayce: Let them think joor. We both know we are not into what they are thinking so why stress yourself? What is the problem Aria? He asked because he knew she was having one and she came to him to confide in him.
Aria: Jayce, I am tired of Ryan and his never ending problems.
Jayce: What do you mean, is it money issue again? By the way, you didn’t tell me the reason you returned the money I gave you the other time you asked for it.
Aria: Well, I wanted to give it to Ryan because his house rent was about to expire and he didn’t have any cash on him that time.
Jayce: So it was Ryan afterall? Anyway, what is the problem this time, is it money issue again?
Aria: No it is not. I just wanted to ask you a few questions on what I should do about Ryan.
Jayce: Go ahead, I am all ears.
Aria: What or how should I approach the topic concerning Ryan and I settling down? He doesn’t want to take the bold step because he has a lot of issues with fulfilling his responsibilities as the first son. He hardly takes care of himself or buys anything good for himself. I am starting to think he may never want us to settle down.
Jayce: Have you spoken to him about it?
Aria: I have and he gave me an assurance. He said I should give him one year and its more than one year already yet nothing has been said.
Jayce: Then talk to him again and listen to what he has to say.
Aria: What else will he say if not, he has a lot of things on his mind.
Jayce: Talk to him first before you jump into conclusion. Communication is the key to any relationship and it only when you both have talked and communicated will you know your next line of action.
Aria: will do that when next I visit him and if nothing positive is said, I might as well just walk away ooo.

Ryan: Alright, I am all ears.
Aria: When are you going to take our relationship to the next level? You have a good job, An Apartment and you can now stand on your own feet properly. Don’t you think it is time we start talking about settling down?
Ryan: He straightened up from the bed he was lying and sat next to Aria on the rug. Aria, I know it is time I start talking about we starting a family but now is not the right time. I still have a lot of things on my mind that I need to sort out before that.
Aria: ‘what other things are you talking about’ she asked frowning.
Ryan: You know that Cameron and Dylan have to go to school. Aside from them I still have other junior ones that need me right now.
Aria: I know you have responsibilities but for how long will you keep taking care of them and putting yourself aside? Why don’t you work on yourself first and accept the responsibilities you can carry. You cannot carry every body’s burden.
Ryan: I am the first son and the first child. It is only right that I do what I have to do for them.
Aria: So because of them, your life is on hold?
Ryan: For now, yes!
Aria: What about us?
Ryan: We will get married soonest but not now.
Aria: When will it be? I need to know because I won’t wait much longer. My people are beginning to be on my neck.
Ryan: He looked at her and saw how serious she is. If you were in my shoes, what will you do?
Aria: I will simply carry the load I can carry and drop others. With time, everything will fall in place. I will also not put my life on hold for them. This is not me being selfish oooo, this is me looking after myself. I just want to know when you will ready so that I will set my mind to it but do know that I won’t wait for long. I am a woman and time is of essence to us.
Ryan: Give me one year to sort out my family issues. Let Cameron and Dylan enter school first then we will talk about getting married.
Aria: One year is too much to wait but I will try. If after one year nothing positive comes out, I will walk away.
Ryan: Aria Aria! To dey vex no suit you abeg. Oya smile for me.
Aria: I have spoken my mind ooo. Why should I smile for you when you do not want to take us serious?
Ryan: ‘I have heard na. Oya smile for me’ he said as he drew her closer and gave a kiss on her lips.

While Mr. and Mrs. Ejiofor were busy receiving the evening fresh air at the verandah of their house, Evelyn walked up to Mr. Ejiofor requesting that she needs to have a one-on-one discussion with him.
Mr. Ejiofor: Evelyn, is it every time you want to discuss something with me? What is it this time?
Evelyn: I must talk to you in private our husband.
Mr. Ejiofor: Say whatever you need to say. The weather is hot, i cannot go inside right now. You can say whatever it is in the presence of my first wife.
Evelyn: looking at Mrs. Ejiofor and eyeing her head to toe. She took the empty chair beside her and sat down.
Mrs. Ejiofor: What is it Evelyn, you can say whatever it is you want to say, feel free.
Evelyn: Turned to her husband and said ‘our husband, I will need some money’.
Mr. Ejiofor: Money for what again? What do you use all the money I give you for?
Evelyn: what do you mean what do I use the money for? Is money not meant for spending? I love spending ooo! I used it to buy myself things that are paramount to me na.
Mr. Ejiofor: Getting frustrated at how his second wife demands for money as if he works in Central Bank of Nigeria said with annoyance ‘Evelyn, I do not have any money to give to you at the moment. You know that I do not work and it is the money Ryan gives me that I always give to you. You are not the only person in this house remember’.
Evelyn: When you were busy chasing me, you promised me heaven on earth didn’t you? You told me that once we get married I won’t lack. But look at my life now; I can barely eat well not to talk of buying the things that I want. I need money to buy some stuff for myself ooo. She said using her left hand to drag her ear.
Mrs. Ejiofor : hmmm..Errmmm my husband, why don’t you look for money and start up a small business for her?
Evelyn: which business? I am not interested in starting any business except he takes me to a fashion school and after that, he will open up a big fashion store for me where I will employ people who I will be paying monthly.
Mrs. Ejiofor: That is too much na. Where will he get the money our wife?
Evelyn: Was it not you that suggested it just now. How is it my business where he will get the money from?
Mr. Ejiofor: I have already told you that I do not have the money. I can’t go and rob a bank simply because I married a second wife who is too demanding.
Evelyn: ‘I need money oooo’ I just need money to spend right now! I’m a classy girl, I love to spend. If i don’t spend in a day, my body go dey do me somehow. Am i under bondage here? Free me oo and let me spend it the way i dream of” she grumbled.
Mrs. Ejiofor: if you want, you can be following me to sell Okrika clothes. Maybe I can be giving you some change after the days’ work if that is okay with you.
Evelyn: ‘Our First wife enough abeg’ she said annoyingly. I didn’t ask for your opinion in this matter. As a matter of fact; I am talking to our husband and not you. Why don’t you learn to mind your own business. What is it sef, is it because you are the first wife that I won’t hear word in this house? Are you the only first –wife in town?
Mrs. Ejiofor: Knew the moment Evelyn entered the house that she was going to be a big problem to her but has said to herself that whatever the new wife does, she will just ignore her for peace to reign. Even though Evelyn is the same age with her first son, she resigned within herself not to batter words with a child. I am sorry ooo our wife. I didn’t mean to upset you.
Mr. Ejiofor: Evelyn, talk to her with respect please. She was only suggesting and you flared up. She is the first wife and your senior, never forget that.
Evelyn: who brought her into our discussion? ‘When am I having the money our husband, i need to spend something’ Yes, spend something like money. This is not what you promised me when you wanted to marry me biko” she asked non chalantly.
Mr. Ejiofor: I do not have any money to give you at the moment and even if I do have, I have other family matters to attend to with the money. You are not the only one here.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Gbam! Ehen my husband. Now you have spoken. Not other times that if she asks for money you will start pacing round the house as if somebody died.
Evelyn: so I will not have any money abi?
Mr. Ejiofor: I said I do not have.
Evelyn: Do you use to have before? When you know say you no get money, why not hide your face and let another man pikin run the race? Ask Ryan your son for Money like you usually do abeg.
Mrs.Ejiofor: What? So my son Ryan is now CBN abi?

Mr. Ejiofor: why are you shouting, do you want to bring down the roof? Just as he was scolding Ryan, Mrs Ejiofor left what she was doing to join in the father and son conversation. Evelyn who has been eavesdropping on their conversation also came to join them immediately she saw the first wife sitting down.
Mrs Ejiofor: Ryan, why are you shouting? Do you know where I heard your voice?
Ryan: Mama I am sorry just that Papa is asking for the impossible right now. Papa, do you know that Cameron and Dylan responsibilities are on me? How can you demand such an amount of money from me? It is too much oooo. ‘You for kukuma come dey work with me na so that the money go double’ he lamented.
Mrs. Ejiofor: how much is the money sef?
Ryan: Eighty thousand naira.
Mrs. Ejiofor : Haba Papa Addison, it is too much an amount na. What you do want to do with it? He is only one man shouldering too many responsibilities as it stands now. Even if …. She was interrupted by Evelyn.
Evelyn: what is too much about the money? Is he not working? Was he not the one he spent his everything to send to school? It is his responsibility to take care of his family na.
Ryan: ‘hmm. Mrs. Evelyn. Please stay out of this. This doesn’t concern you please. I know that the reason my father is asking for such an amount of money is because of you. I warned you Papa didn’t i? I warned you about adding burdens to me but you wouldn’t listen. Now you want to collect such a huge amount of money because of your second wife. I am sorry to say this but I do not have enough money to spare at the moment’. ‘When people are thinking of how to make money and ease themselves of problems you are thinking of giving my hard earn cash to her’ he pointed at Evelyn.
Mr. Ejiofor: ‘Remember she is your step mother and I will not have you disrespect her in my house’ he ordered. ‘When I borrowed money to send you to school, didn’t you know it was also difficult for me as at that time? Now that I am asking you for money you want to rub sand in my face eh Ryan’ he shouted.
Ryan: I am sorry Papa. I didn’t mean to be rude. I will send you the money once I get paid then.
Mr.Ejiofor: Good, that is what I want to hear. He stood up and left the sitting room where they were all sitting with Evelyn trailing behind him.
Mrs. Ejiofor: who has been watching the whole scenario felt for her son. She stood up and went to sit beside him. Ryan! I know that things are difficult but please take it easy on yourself okay. Everything will be alright you hear?
Ryan: Mama, the burden is really weighing me down. Papa is not even helping matters. Why can’t he look for any business for her so that she can start earning her own money? Will he keep sucking me dry to satisfy her? I am not the one married to her but it seems like I took over his responsibilities. If he was Dangote or Atiku Abubakar, I won’t object to his taking another wife because I know he has the wealth that will last him and his children a life time but in this case, he is not.
Mrs. Ejiofor: Do not mind your father, give whatever you can and plan your life too. You are now a man, you should be thinking of settling down soon.
Ryan: I will mama. But right now, is not the time for me to think towards that area. Let me sort out Dylan and Cameron first.
Mrs. Ejiofor: ‘Okay my child, take care of yourself and call me when you get to Onitsha’ she said as he stood up to go.
Ryan: Yes Mama. Take care and tell the rest that I have gone ooo.

Aria got to Ryan’s house , met his Brother Cameron sleeping on the bed. The moment Cameron came to Ryan’s house, Aria and Cameron became friends since she was introduced to him as Ryan girlfriend. Though Aria was a bit uncomfortable having Cameron stay with him at his small apartment because she likes having her privacy with Ryan when she is around but knew that it will only be for a matter of time.
Aria: ‘This one you are at home today, no outing? I thought you also work on Saturday’ she asked as soon as she stepped into the house and met Cameron on the bed pressing his phone.
Cameron: ‘No Aunt Aria. I don’t work on Saturdays’ he said as he looked up at her. Welcome.
Aria: Where is your brother?
Cameron: He stepped out few hours ago, he will soon be back.
Aria: Okay, let me call him. She brought out her phone and dialed his number. Ryan picked when he saw it was Aria calling. Hello Ryan, where are you? She waited a few minutes before saying, I am in your house waiting for you, hope you won’t take long? Okay, I will wait then. Okay, bye. She hung up the call.
Cameron: Is he coming?
Aria: Yes! He is on his way already, he won’t be long.
Cameron: Okay.
Aria: Have you guys eaten? She asked, sitting on the bed beside him.
Cameron: Yes we have. We ate the leftover rice of yesterday.
Aria: okay. What is the plan for school?
Cameron: We are forging ahead with it. When Jamb form is on sale, Brother Ryan will give Dylan and I money to go purchase it. If we are successful, we should be in school by next year.
Aria: Don’t worry; you guys will make it In Jesus Name. Hope you are reading ooo. You came with your books abi?
Cameron: I did, i am reading.
Aria: ‘Let me go to the kitchen and see what’s there’ she said as she stood to go to the kitchen.
Few minutes Later Ryan entered the house.
Ryan: Aria, he called out to her.
Aria: ‘oh Ryan, you are back. Where did you go to’? She asked as soon as she stepped out of the kitchen.
Ryan: I went to do some hustling na.
Aria: Take it easy on yourself ooo. This one you are hustling like there is no tomorrow. Instead of you to rest and get yourself together against Monday you are busy looking for money up and down.
Ryan: ‘I need as much money as I can get right now. I have a lot of things in my head’ he said as he sat on the rug close to the bed.
Aria: Cameron, can you please excuse us for few minutes, there is something I want to discuss with your brother.
Cameron: Alright. He stood up and left the room they were all sharing.
Ryan: It must be serious ooo. This one you boldly ask my brother to excuse us.
Aria: Yes it is. Ryan, whatever I want to discuss with you is about us.

It’s been three months since Evelyn came into the house as the new wife. Over the past months, she has not been a happy woman. She can barely afford a good meal or clothes for herself and she wasn’t happy that the man she married is not even capable of taking care of her like he promised.
She looked at the man snoring loudly beside her, decided to let him know that she is not happy with the situation of things.
Evelyn : My husband, please wake up. She tapped him roughly on his shoulder.
Mr. Ejiofor: hmmm….hmmm.
Evelyn: wake up! ‘There is something important I will like us to discuss please’ she said getting irritated at his drool by the side of his mouth.
Mr. Ejoifor: Okay! He sat up with sleepy eyes ‘what is it that you want to talk to me about that cannot wait?’.
Evelyn: My husband, It is very important else I wouldn’t have woken you up.
Mr. Ejoifor: Okay, what is it?
Evelyn: My husband, you should have told me you were marrying me to suffer me. My marriage with you is barely three months yet it seems like i am in the worst kind of situation here. You told me even before we got married that you were capable of taking care of me but opposite has been the case.
Mr. Ejiofor: Why are you saying all this, my wife?
Evelyn: Since we got married, tell me and please be sincere with me. Have I ever one day eaten three square meal a day? When was the last time I bought good clothes for myself? Was it not before we got married?
Mr Ejoifor:. ‘I am sorry things have not been the way you expect it to be but not to worry, I will make it up to you’ he said smiling and drawing her close to him.
Evelyn: ‘Don’t start with this your, I will make it up to you joor’ she struggled out of his embrace. Tell me how you will make it up to me first.
Mr. Ejoifor: I will ask Ryan, my first son for some money when he comes during the weekend. When he gives me the money, it will all be yours.
Evelyn: ‘if he gives you the money, give me all of it ooo. Don’t give it to your first wife’ she said holding her left ear. She has enjoyed you enough, it is time I enjoy you myself.
Mr. Ejiofor: But what about all the money he gave me the other day that I handed over to you?
Evelyn: Which Money? The forty thousand naira? I used it all na, it was not even enough.
Mr. Ejiofor: Omalicha bekem… Oyoyo nwuyem… Don’t worry yourself. As soon as Ryan comes, any money he gives me will be all yours. My first wife is doing her Okrika business, so the little money she makes there is all hers. I will spoil you when Ryan gives me money you hear.
Evelyn: ‘Yes my husband, that is why you are my husband na. if not, this room will not contain us if you do otherwise’ she said. Oya, lie down lets have some action. You know that tomorrow is your first wife’s turn, let me have my share before tomorrow comes.

Cameron, the immediate junior brother to Ryan finished Secondary School four years ago but due to the fact that his father is financially unstable to see him through higher Institution has stayed at home doing nothing with the promise that when Ryan gets a good job, he will be the one to take up his responsibility.
It’s been three months since Ryan got a job and nothing has been said concerning him furthering his Education. He packed his clothes inside his bag the morning Ryan was to be leaving for Onitsha and went to where Ryan and his father were.
Mr. Ejiofor: Cameron, where are you going to with your bag this morning?
Cameron: Papa, I am not going to listen to you always telling me to be patient anymore. Most of my mates in school are graduates and here I am, still trying to enter school. I am leaving with Brother Ryan to Onitsha. Remember you promised me that when he gets a job, I will move in with him and from there he will train me in school.
Ryan: I have said you will move in with me and I will take responsibility but now is not the time for that. Just stay here and when next I come, we will talk about your school and by his grace, start up from there.
Mr. Ejiofor: But what is wrong with him going with you over there now?
Ryan : Papa, I don’t know how to make you people understand that my place is not conducive enough for anybody to come and stay with me.
Mr. Ejiofor: He is your brother, he will manage.
Ryan: Papa, you don’t get it. When I have enough money to rent an apartment, I will invite him over. My apartment is not too good for anyone to come and be staying with me for now.
Camreon: I do not mind, I will manage. If you are staying there, so will i.
Ryan : Okay fine, I am tired of arguing with you. You can go and wait for me outside. Papa and I have something we were talking about before you came in with your own wahala.
Mr. Ejiofor: As soon as Cameron stepped out, he continued ‘You see my son, when I sent you to school; I had to borrow money from people so that you will try as much as possible to finish schooling. I am glad that my hard work is paying off. You are a graduate and working in a reputable company.
Ryan: Papa, you have told me this story of how you suffered to borrow money to send me to school several times. Just hit the nail on the head already. What is it?
Mr. Ejiofor: I want you to give me some money to use to cater for the family. I do not have any penny on me.
Ryan: How much are we talking about here? I sent you forty thousand naira for upkeep two weeks ago.
Mr. Ejiofor: I did use it and the money is finished.
Ryan: What did you use forty thousand naira for?
Mr. Ejiofor: So because I am asking for money you now want to know what I use the money for Ryan?
Ryan: Haba Papa, it is not so. Just that I sent you forty thousand naira and I gave my mother twenty thousand naira for the house. You telling me the money has finished baffles me.
Mr.Ejiofor: Ryan, the money is finished simple.
Ryan: ‘hmm’ he sighs. How much do you want now?
Mr. Ejiofor: I need Eighty thousand naira.
Ryan: What! What for?

One Morning, as Aria was doing her normal house chores, her mother called out to her from her bedroom.
Mrs. Ekueme: Aria! Aria!
Aria: ‘Yes Mommy, I am coming’ she left the plate she was washing in the kitchen and went to her mother.
Mrs. Ekueme: I know that you are getting late for work but I need to talk to you about something that has been on my mind for quite some time now. Please sit down and give me five minutes of your time.
Aria: Okay Mommy! ‘What is she’ she asked as she sat down by her bedside.
Mrs. Ekueme: Aria, do you have a man in your life?
Aria: Mommy, is this the reason you called me this morning? To talk to me about a man?
Mrs. Ekueme: Aria, you are my daughter and I am concerned about you. I have never seen you with a man talk more of hearing you receive calls. You are my only daughter and it is only right that I know what is happening to you, don’t you think so?
Aria: Mommy, you should not worry yourself about this. When the right time comes, I will bring a man home to you. I talk to men, I receive calls from men. It is just that I like my life to be private.
Mrs. Ekueme: If you say there is someone, he should do and come na. Does he want to wait till you start growing white hairs or if you start entering menopause?
Aria: ‘ Mommy, don’t start abeg’ she said irritably. When the time is right, I will bring him home. Every time you want to talk to me it is always about a man and when is he coming. Ah! I am tired of hearing that. I am only taking my time; I don’t want to rush into things.
Mrs. Ekueme: hmm… have you finished ranting? So you are not happy that I called you this early morning to talk about this issue to you? If you like rant till tomorrow, all I know is that I want to carry my grandchild soonest. The earlier he comes and do the needful the better for all of us because as long as you are under my roof and still unmarried at this age, I will not stop disturbing you about bringing a man home to us. Did you hear what I just said?
Aria: Mommy this is not fair ooo, Haba! You people are putting us, we the girls under pressure. This is one of the reasons why there are so many broken homes today. You force us into marriage simply because you want to carry your grandchild or because your friends children are getting married, forgetting that we all have our own race to run. I am in no competition with no one. I am just twenty eight years old and when God says it is time, who am I to say No?
Mrs. Ekueme: I have said my own ooo. You may leave, go and continue with what you were doing. Aria stood up from the bed and left murmuring to herself.

After close from work that same day, Aria quickly rushed to Ryan place because he called her few hours back telling her to rush home immediately when she is through for the day. She tried asking what the problem was but he refused telling her and so she rushed to his place.
Aria: Ryan, what happened? She asked immediately she entered the house and met him lying on the bed. What happened she asked again, afraid that something terrible may have happened to him. Talk to me na… what happened?
Ryan: ‘You know that I love you so very much right’ he asked as soon as he was on a sitting position, resting his back on the wall and looking at her.
Aria: Ryan, I didn’t come all the way from Asaba to Onitsha for you to tell me you love me. I thought something bad may have happened to you. Did you go out today sef this one you are busy lying down?
Ryan: I did and I am back. ‘Before I tell you anything, I want to appreciate you for been the best girlfriend ever’ he held her hands close to his heart and continued ‘my heart beats and will continue to beat for you till my dying days. You have been, not just a good girlfriend but a supportive one at that. You encouraged me to move on with life even though all I could see were great walls that couldn’t break. Thank you so very much’.
Aria: what am I your girlfriend for if I cannot impact something positive in your life? ‘You are welcome’ she said touching his cheek ‘but wait oh, what happened? You scared the life out of me when you called’.
Ryan: Okay fine. I will tell you but you have to guess what it is first. Oya guess.
Aria: Thinking. Urrm…Okay, the place you were told to come to yesterday, they called you for a job
Ryan: Nope, one last try, guess again.
Aria: ‘Ryan Please na, I cannot guess again. Tell me what it is already because I do not like the suspense’ she said pouting her mouth and frowning.
Ryan: Okay fine. I met a woman yesterday when I went to hustle, she told me to come this morning of which I did. Hmm! my dear, God works in mysterious ways. She is my helper sent from above.
Aria: Okay, when you went this morning what happened? She asked eager to hear the end of the story.
Ryan: ‘she gave me a job’ he shouted.
Aria: ‘what’ she screamed. Wait a minute, this is not one of your pranks right?
Ryan: I am serious joor. She told me I can report to work on Monday since the week is already over.
Aria: oh my God! She screamed. Wow! At last, God of Shiloh has finally heard our Prayers. I am so happy and at the same time so relieved. Congrats Ryan. I am so happy for you, which means I can return the fifty thousand naira I borrowed.
Ryan: Please do. Won’t you ask me how much the pay is?
Aria: How much is the pay?
Ryan: I will be starting with 120 thousand naira for a start.
Aria: Serious? She opened her eyes in shock. 120 thousand naira. Hmm.. That is really a good start ooo. When some people are paying others 40 thousand, 30 thousand, even 18 thousand sef and yours is Triple. You are really lucky.
Ryan: Which lucky, it is grace that is working for me ooo. My New Dawn has already begun.
Aria: hahahaha. It has indeed. I am so happy. Have you informed your people already?
Ryan: Yes I have. They were so happy and my father wants me to come home tomorrow sef.
Aria: hope this time around no problem because anytime you go home it is one thing or another and what about the place you were told to come to yesterday?
Ryan: They didn’t say anything serious aside from asking me if I do administrative job for eighteen thousand naira of which I rejected. Wait, let me get dressed, I am taking you out to spoil you properly.
Aria: Okay ooo. At last, he has gotten a job. When he is more stable, we will be talking about getting married…. Can’t wait to be called Mrs. Ryan she thought to herself and smiled.

Mr. Ejiofor: Listen all of you and listen carefully, you all will take care of each other whether I am alive or dead. I know the situation will not be easy that is why, when you Ryan get a good Job, Cameron and Dylan will be your basic responsibility. In due time, when they are on their feet, they will take over by taking care of Adam. Addison has no problem because her Mother is always there for her except if God forbid, something happens which we pray against then Addison will be your sole priority. She is the only daughter we have and she must be taken good care of pending when suitors’ starts coming for her hand in marriage.
Ryan: This is too much Papa. This is just too much on me especially as the first child and the first son he complained bitterly. I do not have a job yet but I make sure that I send something no matter how little for you guys every month. I barely take care of myself. All my thought is on you people, for you people to feed fine and be well. I can’t even remember the last time I bought a shirt for myself. I am a man Papa, I am supposed to start thinking of how to get married and raise my kids not you. You are old. You have a wife who will take of you and your children who will support you. Don’t you think marrying a second wife at this time is wrong?
Mr. Ejiofor: You mean I am wrong with this decision?
Ryan: Papa If you get married, where is the money that you will use in taking care of your new wife? I am not talking about my own mother ooo. I am talking about your new wife, my step – mother to be? How can you feed her? How can you take care of her? ‘Is it with my own mothers business that is already crumbling or with the little money I send? Papa how na’ he asked with his hands akimbo.
Mr. Ejiofor: When we get there, we will cross the bridge.
Ryan: No papa, let us cross the bridge now because I know you too well. When it gets to that time, everything will fall on me. I have my own life to live oooo. What do you even need a new wife for when your first wife is still with you?
Mr. Ejiofor: I have spoken and made my decision. Errmmm… ‘Cameron and Dylan, what is the question you wanted to ask’ he said ignoring Ryan.
Cameron: Papa, when am I allowed to go to Onitsha and Join brother Ryan?
Mr. Ejiofor: When he gets a job you will join him immediately.
Dylan: Papa, you said you will give me money to write Jamb. When will that be because Jamb will soon stop selling their form.
Mr. Ejiofor: He turned to Ryan ‘When are you going to bring money for his Jamb?’
Ryan: Looking at all of them, he kept mute.
Mrs Ejiofor: Ryan, is it not you your father is talking to?
Ryan: ‘Nobody should disturb me oh!’ he shouted, ‘Nobody should just get me angry this evening’. He looked at his mother and Father. Mama! Papa! How could you people think of giving birth to Five Children when you can hardly feed one child? You produced and produced and want to continue producing forgetting that the basic necessities for taking care of a child are not there. Ever since we were all little children; we hardly have enough food or clothes to wear. We all went and are still going to public school, even when I managed to enter higher institution; I hustled and struggled through school. Now that I am finally a graduate looking for a job, I see all of you looking up to me to take care of. Why don’t you people go and learn one trade or the other and stand up all on your feet since you know the situation on ground and the kind of family you came into?
Mrs Ejiofor: Is it because of Dylan’s Jamb form that you are saying all this?
Ryan: Mama, it is not because of Dylan’s Jamb form that I am saying this. It is because you are all choking me with your problems. I have my own problem too. I want to get married and have children but how can I plan when you people keep adding more to my already unsolved problems?
Mrs Ejiofor: My son, I know it is not easy. If your father was or is receiving his pensions all this will have lessen all your burdens. Please take it easy on your brothers’ biko, Biko Nwam!
Mr. Ejiofor: Adam, what do you want to tell me?
Dylan: Ermm..Papa, you haven’t….before he could finish his statement, he was interrupted again
Ryan: Papa, they can tell you whatever it is. I want to go to bed abeg. If I keep staying here and listening, we won’t leave here today. I have to leave very early tomorrow morning because there is a place I want to go and submit my CV in Onitsha.
Mr. Ejiofor: ‘Alright, will tell you when we will be going for the payment of bride price’ he said and Ryan left them to continue with their discussion.
==
One month after the payment of the bride price to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Onwudinjo in Asaba, their new bride was brought home.
Ryan was busy getting prepared to go to Onitsha main market to hussle for the day when he got an urgent call to report to No.33 Upper Iweaka Road, Okechukwu Ventures Limited by 1pm later in the day. He quickly dialed Aria’s number and informed him of his day movement before he set off for hustling.
As he got to Onitsha main Market, he didn’t know how or what to do to get money for the day. He saw a woman who was looking for a wheel barrow and went to her.
Ryan: ‘Madame! Good Morning. If you dey look for wheel barrow I fit help you carry your goods to where you wan go’ he said scratching his head.
Madame: looking at the nice looking young man, well dressed and wondered if he is not 419. ‘No worry, I go wait till I see wheel barrow, you no go fit carry the load e too plenty’.
Ryan: Madame, I fit carry am ooo. No look as I take polish myself come out to work this morning. Man must survive and I dey capable. You see this load eh! He said pointing at the three big packaged goods lying on the ground. I fit carry am if you go pay me well with smiles on his face.
Madame: Young man, I said don’t worry; I will wait for the wheel barrow pushers. ‘I wonder where they are’ she said looking at her wristwatch.
Ryan: Madame on a serious note, I can do it. You can pay me whatever you want. Let me just do it for you.
Madame: So you speak good English Fluently? Are you a graduate? He nodded his head. ‘What are you doing here?
Ryan: With smiles on his face he said ‘man must survive since no work in naija, I come here to hustle on my own to make ends meet’.
Madame: She smiled at how he spoke and how humble he is. ‘Okay’ she said, ‘Help me carry my load to where I can get a car going to Osadebe Avenue in Awka’.
Quickly, he lifted the three loads which were heavy with the help of a passer-by, one on top each other on his head and went under the bridge with the woman trailing after her. When he got there, he spoke to one of the cab drivers in his native tongue and the fare was agreed upon. She was amazed and happy at how he made her journey easy and less stressful. She gave him her card, asked him to call her first thing in the morning the following day and handed five thousand naira to him for Job well done.
Ryan: ‘Ah! Thank you ma’ he bowed.
Madame: What are you thanking me for? You made my job easy for me. If it was before, I will be here battling and looking for who will help me carry my goods for me. Sometimes, it will take me one hour plus. You know how dangerous this place is, I am always on alert anytime I come here.
Ryan: ‘but five thousand naira is too much a fee for what I just did’ he said sincerely.
Madame: she smiled and said to herself ‘What an honest man he is’. What did you study in school?
Ryan: Electrical Engineering Ma.
Madame: Meet me up tomorrow and come along with your CV. I may have somewhere to fix you up; you are not meant to be here. ‘See you tomorrow’ she said as she entered the car and the driver drove off.
Ryan: looked up in the sky and said ‘I believe there is still hope and a place somewhere for me in this world and I will get there someday. Thank you God for making me live home today and meeting a stranger who I pray will be a stepping stone to my greatness. I thank you God’ he went on his knee and raised his hands up in the air with passers-by looking and wondering if this is fresh madness in Onitsha.

Ryan left Onitsha to Owerre- Ezukala where his parents are based. When he got to the house, he met no one at home; he quickly went straight to the kitchen and dropped the food stuff he brought along with him. As he emptied the bag containing the foodstuff, he heard footsteps. He left what he was doing to see who just entered the house.
Ryan: ‘Addison, where is everybody. How come I entered here and the door was opened’ he asked his little sister.
Addison: Sorry Brother. Welcome. I just went outside to buy garri and groundnut to take. I am very hungry and no food in the house.
Ryan: Where are your brothers?
Addison: They must have gone to play football in Chinedu’s house.
Ryan: Go to the kitchen, I brought some food stuff. See if you can prepare anything with them. Hurry, I am very hungry.
Addison: Okay brother. She ran to the kitchen.
Ryan: Errmmm… Addison, he called out. What is it that Papa wants to talk to me about?
Addison: Hmm.. Brother, you will have to wait for Papa to give you the news himself because if I tell you now eh, I will be in trouble.
Ryan: Tell me what it is joor.
Addison: hmm, brother. I don’t want to enter trouble ooo.
Ryan: Addy! Addy! he said as he went close to her to pat her on the back. Okay, tell me and I promise to act like you never told me. Please nah! She struggled off his hold. ‘You know you are the only Minister of information in this house’ he said smiling.
Addison: I won’t she said smiling , swinging her right leg back and forth.
Ryan: Please nah!
Addison: Okay, fine! The reason why Papa said you should come home is because he wants to tell you and everyone in the house, he wants to take a second wife.
Ryan: What????
Addison: That is not all ooo. ‘I even heard him telling Mama that you will go and accompany him to pay the bride price few months from now’ she said looking round the house to make sure no one is eavesdropping on them…Hmm brother, Mama don talk tire but it seems Papa has already made up his mind.
Ryan: What kind of nonsense is this one now. When things are as hard as ever, Papa wants to marry a new wife. I will have to talk him out of it.
Addison: No point brother! He has already made up his mind. You know how Papa is, once he says he will do a particular thing, he hardly changes his mind.
Ryan: Okay, you can go and continue with what you are about to do.
Addison: Ermm brother, please don’t tell anybody ooo. Just act like you do not know because if Papa gets to know that you are already aware, he will not be happy.
Ryan: No Problem Addy, you have my word. She nodded and went about cooking dinner for the family with the foodstuff Ryan brought along.

Aria works as a Storekeeper in Chiwendu’s Store situated at Gowen Plaza Asaba. They specialize in selling whole sale and retail drinks. There, she met Jayce Mbatu who works at Guinness Company as a promoter of their brand and goods. Ever since then, they both have been friends, they share everything troubling them. Even though, Jayce likes Aria more than a friend but since she is hooked with another guy, he respects her decision and judgment.
Jayce met Aria sitting all alone in the store, with her hands on her chin as if she was worried about something.
Jayce: Aria, are you okay? ‘Remove your hand from your chin joor. You don’t know how you look like when you do that’ he said as he stood in front of her.
Aria: Jayce! I am fine Jare, just lost in thought thinking about my personal problems.
Jayce: ‘What is it’ he asked as he drew a chair close to him and sat down. Hope no be man problem because anytime wey I see you like this na Ryan matter you dey think of.
Aria: ‘Can I ask you for a favor please’ she asked ignoring his statement.
Jayce: Sure. What is it you want?
Aria: Can I get like eighty thousand naira from you?
Jayce: Ah! That is a huge money. What do you want to do with eighty thousand naira?
Aria: Actually, It is for something personal. I promise to pay you back but I will pay in installment. You know say my salary na forty thousand naira per month.
Jayce: Aria, you haven’t answered the question. What do you want to do with forty thousand naira?
Aria: Looking at him and contemplating whether to tell him the reason why she needs the money or not. ‘Errmm Jayce’ she said scratching her head, ‘I need the money for personal reasons’.
Jayce: It is for Ryan abi? That is why you need such a huge amount of money. How can you even pay me back when you earn only forty thousand? Is Ryan pestering you for cash?
Aria: It is not like that na. I just need it badly. If you cannot help, just tell me instead of you to keep questioning me.
Jayce: Ehen! Sorry ooo, for my own money again? I need to know the reason because it is my money and i will like to know what you need the money for and when you will pay me back.
Aria: I will pay you twenty thousand naira each for four consecutive months.
Jayce: What do you want to use the money for?
Aria: For something personal na shooo, which kind question be this one na. Give me if you go give me no dey ask jamb question abeg.
Jayce: Okay, but na fifty thousand naira I go give you oooo.
Aria: Thanks I appreciate. I promise that I won’t disappoint you when it reaches time for payment.
Jayce: ‘ I hear’ he said looking at her and wondering why she refused to tell him the reason for the money.

At about 9:00PM in the evening, after the whole family members have had their dinner, Mr. Ejiofor called his wife and children in the sitting room for a family meeting.
Mr. Ejiofor: Mama Addison, Errmm..Ryan, Cameron, Dylan, Adam and Addison he called each and every one of the looking them in the eyes. I called you all here today because from now on, you all will have a step mother. You will treat her with love and give her the necessary respect required. Treat her like you treat your own mother and… he was interrupted by Ryan his first son.
Ryan: Papa, you want to marry? I cannot believe this. How can you marry when we can barely stand on our feet in this house?
Mr. Ejiofor: ‘ Ryan, will you shut up’ he shouted. What do you mean how can I marry? Am I not the man of this house?
Mrs. Ejiofor: ah ah! Papa Addison, the young man just asked a question na. Instead of you to answer the question you are busy shouting at him for nothing.
Mr. Ejiofor : looked at his wife with anger in his eyes and continued with what he was saying. As I was saying before I was interrupted, I want you all to respect her so that we can all live in peace. Ryan, you and some of my people will accompany me to her village to pay her bride price next month. Will give you the date in due time. “Addison?” he called
Addison: Yes Papa
Mr. Ejiofor: You are our only daughter in this house and you are the only one occupying your room. I want you to move your things to your mother’s room and get that room ready for your step mother. Did you hear me?
Addison: Yes Papa.
Mr. Ejiofor: Good. Is there anything else? Any question. They all chorused ‘Yes’ Alright, Let me start with you Ryan. What is the question again?
Ryan: In this time of hardship, when there is no job and we are all trying to put our heads above waters, Who will be responsible for her kids when they start coming?
